A Brief History of the ECO Scheme

The ECO scheme was first introduced in 2013, and the ECO1 scheme ran between 1st January 2013 & 31st March 2015.

ECO2 ran between 1st April 2017 to 30th September 2018; the previous energy-saving scheme ECO3 ran from 3rd December 2018 till 31st March 2022 and has recently been replaced by the new ECO4 scheme.

What is the EC04 Scheme?

The ECO was introduced in 2013 to encourage energy suppliers to implement energy-efficient measures for properties throughout the UK, including towns throughout Lancashire & Greater Manchester, such as Blackpool, Lancaster, Preston, Wigan & Manchester.

The scheme focuses on low-income, vulnerable & fuel-poor consumer groups through the installation of insulation & cost-saving heating measures. The aims of the Energy Company Obligation are:

1) To try and alleviate fuel poverty and accelerate the progress to help meet fuel poverty targets.
2) Contribute to reducing homeowners’ carbon footprints within the domestic sector.
3) By encouraging greater energy efficiency, the expenses associated with achieving the UK’s renewable energy objective could be lowered.
4) Encourage innovation within the industry to help reduce costs & carbon footprint long-term.

How Long Do I Have To Apply For The ECO4 Scheme?

The ECO4 Scheme/Order runs from 27th July 2022 till 31st March 2026 and has been split into 4 phases.

ECO4 has been designed with a single purpose, to reduce home heating costs for low-income households and vulnerable & fuel-poor individuals.
